Blades:
Can I sharpen
the blades?
It is highly recommended to replace the blades rather than
sharpening them. Once a season is a good time to do it or
when dull. Sharpening the blades will reduce their balance,
which will increase mower noise, vibrations and can lead
to damaging the mowing motors. Motor damage caused by using
sharpened blades are not covered under warranty. Dull blades
will produce a ragged cut and will reduce the running time
per charge.
Are
the blades hard to change?
Changing the blades is a simple process that does not require
any tools and takes just a few minutes.
The
blades are brownish and I am
afraid they are corroding, should I be worried or clean
them?
It is normal for the blades to corrode a bit on the outside
and become brownish. No need to worry or try to remove this
brownish coloration. However, make sure the blades are clean
from grass clippings and if dull, replace them.
Battery:
Do
I have to keep up with the charging
process and unplug the charger when the power pack becomes
completely charged?
No, the charger is equipped with a float control, allowing
the charger to remain connected at all times without risk
of damage. In fact, this is the recommended procedure between
uses.
How do I charge
it during the winter?
It is recommended to charge the power pack fully and then
remove from the mower and store in a dry, room temperature
place, such as a basement or indoors. Repeat this procedure
every 2-3 months. The RoboMower can be stored anywhere.
Do not position it upwards, on any of its bumpers and make
sure the bumpers are not pressed against any object for
the storage period.
Can the power
pack be left in the mower without charging?
Definitely not. The manual controller screen will go blank
since the mower is "asleep", however, it keeps
consuming a small current constantly and in a few weeks
the power pack will be depleted. This is a sure way of killing
the power pack. Be sure fully charge and remove the RoboMower
power pack prior to extended storage.
I do not have
a garage or shed, can I charge it outdoors?
Only the RL1000 can charge outdoors, at its docking station.
Charging outdoors any other RoboMower type with the regular
charger, even the RL1000, is not allowed due to safety.
The charging must be done in a dry area, protected from
the elements. If you do not have a dry, outlet equipped
storage area for an RL-850, you may want to purchase the
external charger.
This will allow you to charge the battery in another location
without the mower. An added benefit of the external charger
is that it will charge the battery in as fast as four hours.
What is the life
of the power pack?
When properly maintained, two to three years/seasons on
average.
Can a low voltage
power pack be restored?
Yes. In most cases a one time low voltage could be revived.
When the power pack overall voltage drops below 12 volts
it will not wake up the mower. It could be revived with
a car battery charger. Or with a RoboMower fast external
charger. Please see details in Product Info/Mower care or
contact customer support for instructions.
What is the cost
of electricity to recharge the battery?
Assuming you used the mower every single day, the average
cost of electricity to recharge the power pack is approximately
$7.00 a year.
Cleaning:
Can I wash it
like I used to wash my walk-behind mower?
No you cannot. The RoboMower can be cleaned using a wet
rag with very little moisture in it. Remove the power pack
before cleaning. The mulching cavities could be cleaned
with a wooden spoon, plastic spatula, or a soft brush. Do
not lay the mower upside down and use a wet rag or any water
in this position.
Perimeter
Control and Wire:
Cut
wire: Is there a simple way to find
a break in the perimeter wire?
Sure there is. First, inspect areas on the wire where you
have just done some work on, such as digging etc. Second,
get in touch with us and we will send you instructions of
how to find the break in the wire using your perimeter switch
and some extra wire.
How
do I repair a break in the wire
or add a section of wire to an existing zone?
Use only silicone sealed connectors. Twisting the two wire
ends together will work for a month or two, then corrode
and become a bad contact, which will result in a wire disconnected
error or even low battery indication on the perimeter switch.
A connector kit is available from us.
Can the perimeter
switch be set up to be powered from an electrical outlet?
Yes it can. The batteries last quite a while so it probably
will not be worth doing. Please contact the manufacturer
for details. Note: this modification will void the warranty
on the RoboMower perimeter switch. The RL-1000 dock has
a built in perimeter switch that does not require batteries.
